Tyla has won the Grammy for Best African Music Performance with her hit song “Water.”

The young superstar’s victory at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards sent waves of excitement through her home country.

Tyla, only 22, shared her disbelief and gratitude during her heartfelt acceptance speech at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

“Oh my gosh, guys. This is crazy! I never thought I’d say, ‘I won a Grammy at 22 years old!” she said, thanking her family, team and God for the unbelievable accomplishment.

The newly introduced Grammy category, Best African Music Performance, showed the Recording Academy’s recognition of the musical heritage and talent coming from the continent.

Tyla, who rose to international fame with “Water“, previously shared her excitement about the nomination, calling it “such a blessing.”

As South Africa celebrates Tyla’s triumph, her win also brings into focus the work of other South African talents like Trevor Noah, who, despite not clinching a Grammy this year, has made major strides on the international stage.
