- South African star Tyla headlines Afro Nation Portugal from 3 to 5 July, performing in Portimรฃo alongside Wizkid and Asake.
- Roc Nation named Tyla as its newest signee on 1 July with a Times Square billboard, after leaving Epic Records.
Tyla takes the stage at Afro Nation Portugal from 3 to 5 July, days after Roc Nation named her as the newest artist on its books.
Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z, unveiled Tyla with a digital billboard in New York’s Times Square on 1 July. The move comes after Tyla ended her deal with Epic Records, the label she signed with in 2021.
Multiple reports describe the new deal as multi-million-dollar and global. Neither Tyla nor Roc Nation have released a statement confirming the terms.
The two-time Grammy winner broke into the global charts with her hit “Water.”
Afro Nation Portugal, one of the world’s biggest celebrations of African music, returns to the beaches of Portimรฃo from 3 to 5 July. It draws fans from more than 100 countries every year.
This is Tyla’s second time playing the festival. This year she headlines alongside Nigerian stars Wizkid and Asake, American rapper Gunna and singer Mariah The Scientist.
South Africa has a strong presence on the bill too. Amapiano stars Kelvin Momo and Zee Nxumalo are also expected to perform.
Actor Hungani Ndlovu, who revived his DJ career this year under the name DJ Grizi, has landed two performances in Portugal’s Algarve region.
“Did someone say Portugal? No they didn’tโฆ but God did!” Ndlovu wrote on social media.
Ndlovu took a six-year break from DJing before returning with his BREEZE Sessions YouTube series. He plays house, amapiano, afrobeats, 3-Step and gqom, and gives upcoming artists a platform.
Tyla’s second album is due out later this month.
