Newly crowned WBA Pan African junior featherweight champion Innocent “Tycoon” Mantengu has revealed he will use the prize money to marry a second wife.
He said he was worried about where he would get the extra money to pay lobola for his bride-to-be, Nomzamo Mkhabela, to officially tie the knot.
“I hope to conclude everything before the end of the year,” said the proud polygamist.
Mantengu beat Luthando Mbumbulwana on points in a tournament staged in Sandton on Friday.
The 30-year-old champion from Mtubatuba, northern KZN told Scrolla.Africa he had been planning to finish off lobola negotiations at his fiancé Nomzamo’s home since last year.
He said that the lockdown delayed his plans since tournaments which he was supposed to participate in were cancelled at the eleventh hour.
He married his first wife, Nontobeko Zulu, in a traditional wedding two years ago.
Mantengu, a qualified teacher, said polygamy was not something new to him.
“I learnt the art of taking care of more than one wife from my late father who had four wives. I am blessed that these two loves of my life respect each other. They support each other and raise our kids together,” he said.
Before earning the WBA crown, Mantengu lost his national title to Ayabonga “JayJay” Soncija in East London in 2019, but he bounced back in emphatic fashion last weekend by turning on the magic against his East London opponent.
He won the fight on a points decision.
