Two men in their early 20s drowned on Sunday evening during a ritual in the Natalspruit River near Zonkizizwe, Katlehong. Paramedics declared them dead after their bodies were retrieved from the river.
The tragedy unfolded when, during the ritual, three men entered the river to swim. Only one of the men managed to reach the shore, while the other two were swept away.
According to EMPD media liaison officer William Ntladi, emergency teams from the local Zonkizizwe Fire Station and the SAPS water wing collaborated to recover the bodies.
“Paramedics declared both men dead on scene. The case is under SAPS investigation,” he said.
