Popular televangelist Pastor Enock Phiri is currently being held in custody for allegedly damaging the property of his ex-wife, Busisiwe Phiri, and threatening their two children.
According to an affidavit made by Busisiwe, which has been seen by Scrolla.Africa, the incident happened on Sunday.
Pastor Phiri, founder of the Restoration House Ministries in Soweto, divorced his wife last year after 18 years of marriage.
According to a statement Busisiwe made to the police, she came home to find her ex-husband parked outside her residence at Protea Glen Ext 11 in Johannesburg in the afternoon.
Because his car was blocking the entrance, Busisiwe got out of her car and asked what he was doing at the residence.
“I left him by the gate and went inside the yard. I notified my daughter about his car blocking the gate,” Busiswe’s statement reads.
“Later in the day, he managed to gain entrance and screamed and swore at the kids. He claimed to be feeling cold and asked for a blanket. I warned him to stop. He then proceeded to damage the sliding door with a brick,” said Busisiwe.
She and the children then left the house to go to Mondeor police station to open a case against Pastor Phiri.
The pastor, who is the host and presenter of the TV show Taking Dominion on DStv’s TBN on Africa channel, made headlines when a video of him dancing to Karyn White’s “I’d Rather be Alone” circulated shortly after he divorced.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said a 47-year-old suspect was arrested on Sunday and charged with malicious damage to property.
He is expected to appear at Booysens Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 7 September 2021.
