Trust Broos to select the right players!

Menzi on Wednesday: Menzi Magubane explains why football analysts and former players should show respect to the current Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos when he selects the squad.

It’s disappointing to see Broos not getting the full support from South African football lovers.

Supporters always complain when Broos announces his squad telling him which players he should or should not have selected.

The Belgian was once again criticised for not calling players that many people think he should have selected ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.

We all know that Mamelodi Sundowns have been dominating South African football in recent years and their players walked away with big PSL awards last week.

It is good, however, to see Broos standing his ground as he continues to rebuild the national team which is what he was hired to do in the first place.

Broos has hit back at those who have been bullying him since he took over as coach. He made it clear that he will never bow down to those bullies.

“Please do not misunderstand me. Last year when I selected my first squad, everyone was asking me why I didn’t select Njabulo Ngcobo. He is the best defender in the league. Look what happened to him at Kaizer Chiefs. He doesn’t play but he was the best defender,” said Broos.

Analysts also lambasted Broos for not selecting Andile Jali and Themba Zwane for next week’s first Afcon qualifier match against Morocco.

“Don’t focus on the fact that Jali and Zwane have five trophies. As I said in the beginning, and I will say it again in two years. I’m sorry but I don’t see why I should select Jali and Zwane.

“I don’t think anybody will force me to select players I don’t need in my plans for the national team,” he said.

Bafana will visit Morocco next Saturday and the team will need all the support they can get from South African soccer fans.

Broos also needs that support. Hitting out at him won’t help. Let’s rally behind him as our national coach.
