New Zealand police pulled over a “suspicious looking” car outside of the city of Auckland, only to find that it was full to the brim with buckets of chicken, fries and coleslaw from KFC.
The cops arrested the two occupants of the car, who were also in possession of the equivalent of over R1 million in cash.
Until Wednesday, New Zealand’s capital, Auckland, was under a stricter level of lockdown than the rest of the country. Travel within the region was heavily restricted and border crossings were illegal without documentation.
Crucially, restaurants – including takeaways – were also closed. This means that KFC was unavailable anywhere in the city.
The cops were patrolling the backstreets just outside the south of the city when they saw the chicken-laden car.
As police approached the vehicle, its occupants caught sight of them, performed a U-turn and tried to speed away.
But they never gained any significant distance over the police vehicle, and eventually pulled over.
“The vehicle was searched and police located the cash, alongside empty ounce bags and a large amount of takeaways,” police said in a statement, describing the two men as “gang associates.”
Police photos showed at least three buckets of chicken, about 10 cups of coleslaw, a large package of fries, and four large bags containing other KFC items.
