Trevor Noah is on top of the world

If there was ever a doubt that Trevor Noah had really made the big time, his performance hosting the Grammys has taken care of it.

Noah shone.

Before the broadcast of the Grammys, local celebrities like Anele Mdoda took to Twitter saying how they couldn’t wait to see Trevor on the show. Anele said “Trevor Noah is the only reason I will watch Grammy Awards”. And during the show American model Christine Diane, John Legend’s wife, said “Lol @trevornoah is being fuckin great”.

It was the Daily Show which catapulted him on to the world stage. The show’s former presenter, the legendary Jon Stewart, handpicked Noah to succeed him in 2015. Stewart’s were big shoes to fill, and Noah has made the show his own with his unique style.  Under his watch, The Daily Show now airs in 170 countries – compared with 76 countries when he took over.

In 2009, he went against the odds by selling out his first one man show at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City. He was soon a household name on SA’s comedy scene, and has sold out shows in five continents.

Whether on stage cracking jokes or in his private life, Noah, who hails from Soweto, has been rewarded fabulously.

Forbes Magazine reported in 2019 that he earns more than $20 million a year. In 2017, on his birthday, he purchased a New York apartment reportedly worth R130 million (about $10 million at the time),

Noah recently made an appearance in Coming 2 America as a news anchor in Zamunda, a fictional African kingdom where Eddie Murphy’s King Akeem Joffer rules.
