Dr Pertunia Mathibe, a well-known cosmetic doctor who ran a popular clinic in Pretoria, has died suddenly.

Her clinic, the Dr Pert Centre for Body Sculpting, shared the news on social media on Wednesday. It did not give the cause of death and asked for privacy.

Dr Mathibe, widely known as Dr Pert, offered treatments such as liposuction, Brazilian butt lifts, anti-ageing procedures and vitamin drips.

She was a trusted expert in aesthetic medicine and worked with many high-profile clients. Her work was praised for its quality, and her clients often spoke of her kind and respectful manner.

Dr Pert was born in Hammanskraal, Gauteng, and grew up in Giyani, Limpopo. At 16, she represented South Africa in basketball. After her father died while she was still in school, she stayed focused on her goal to become a doctor.

She studied medicine at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University and completed her medical training in Limpopo. Later, she trained further in the United States, specialising in aesthetic medicine and body shaping procedures.

Her clients included celebrities such as Nomzamo Mbatha, Kelly Khumalo and Bonang Matheba, who all praised her work.

Although she kept her clients’ details private, her results were widely shared and admired.

Some plastic surgeons criticised her procedures, saying only specialists should do operations like Brazilian butt lifts.

Her clinic has not confirmed any more details about her death.
