Hip hop artist Nkululeko Nciza, better known as Ciza, says he chose music over politics because it’s a better way to unite South Africans.
Ciza is the son of former Gauteng ANC Secretary TK Nciza and legendary Mafikizolo singer Nhlanhla Mafu. He told Scrolla.Africa that although he understands politics, music gives him a wider platform to spread love and unity.
“I believe that music is another political platform to reach the broader society and give people hope. It’s the way I’m able to reach people of different backgrounds,” he said.
Ciza is in Durban promoting his new single “Isaka”, which he says is already climbing music charts across the country. He released his first single, “Come Alive”, in 2020 and followed it up with “Adje” the same year.
The 24-year-old started his music career soon after finishing matric in 2019. He’s now planning to release a new track titled “uNkulunkulu” in June.
“I’m proud that my single is doing very well since I released it,” he said.
Ciza is not doing it alone. His father TK Nciza, known for discovering and developing talent in the music industry, is helping him promote the new single in KwaZulu-Natal.
They plan to leave the province on Tuesday and continue promoting the track in other parts of the country.
He said he also plans to return to university to further his education. “Education is a powerful combination with music,” he said.
With music in his blood, Ciza hopes to follow in his parents’ footsteps while carving out his own path. His mother Nhlanhla Mafu is still making hits with the iconic group Mafikizolo.
