When she didn’t have a cellphone or anything valuable to give them, the three thugs went for her lunch box.
The hungry crooks demanded meat but the woman from Cape Town had only packed some bread and butter – so they beat her up and forced her to shove the bread down her throat.
“I was waiting for a taxi when three thugs asked for my phone. I told them that I don’t have a phone because I had been robbed earlier in the month,” she told Scrolla.Africa.
The thugs then searched her bag. Desperate to walk away with something, they went for the lunch box when they couldn’t find anything.
Since she knew there was nothing valuable in the bag the woman who did not want to be named said she relaxed thinking they would let her go.
“[But] then they beat me up, saying I must stop being stingy and start carrying delicious food.”
Pleading with them, she told them she didn’t have any money for meat as it wasn’t the end of the month.
“They said if I didn’t have a phone or cash, I must have meat in my lunch,” she said.
Then they humiliated her, forcing her to eat the bread while they watched.
“They told me to show them how I eat bread without meat,” she said.
“I hate them. I pray that one day they meet someone who will beat them the way they beat me,” she said.
“I didn’t report the case because going to the police would be a waste of time. They won’t arrest them, and it won’t change the fact that I was attacked.”
Nceba Dweba, a 40-year-old resident, told Scrolla.Africa that thugs rule in their areas.
“Now that they also want lunch boxes shows that they are hungry. They beat people who walk around without a smartphone,” said Dweba.
