Sergeant Luxolo Ndaba, only 29 years old, was found dead early on Sunday morning in Ngcobo.
His body was discovered next to his vehicle around 5am.
The details are gruesome. His throat was slit and he had been stabbed 14 times in the back and neck.
Ndaba worked as a detective. He was last seen alive on Saturday night.
But police moved fast to find his killers.
On Monday, the Hawks and local police launched a special operation to track down the people responsible. They arrested three suspects the same day.
The accused are very young. They are aged between 16 and 24.
Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana says the killing has shocked the police community.
“The team successfully traced and arrested three suspects,” Mhlakuvana said.
MEC for Community Safety Xolile Nqatha praised the officers for doing their job quickly. He hopes this brings some peace to Ndaba’s grieving family.
“I am extremely thrilled that the police have apprehended the three suspects who allegedly committed this heinous crime,” Nqatha said.
The three suspects will face a judge in court soon.
