‘Those who want to dethrone me must be dreaming!’

King of the Zulu nation Misuzulu kaZwelithini has made it clear to those who are planning to dethrone him that he will fight to the last to keep hold of the crown.

King Misuzulu was speaking at the inauguration of Inkosi Njabulo Miya of the Amazizi traditional council in Bergville, at the foot of the Drakensberg, on Friday.

This was his first inauguration of a traditional leader since he ascended to the throne of the Zulu nation last year.

“Those who want to dethrone me must be dreaming. I am not going anywhere; they must know that I was born for the throne not otherwise,” he said.

King Misuzulu uttered these words while officially handing over King Shaka’s spear to Inkosi Miya.

“By wielding this spear, an emblem belonging to King Shaka, the custodian of the Zulu Kingdom, we are reaffirming the promise we have made to stand united as we guide our nation forward. I must congratulate the Miya clan; nominating an Inkosi is not easy,” said King Misuzulu.

The king is being challenged by his half-brothers who want the throne, Prince Simakade and Prince Buzabazi.

Prince Simakade has taken the fight to the North Gauteng High Court where he wants the coronation and King Misuzulu’s recognition by the government to be nullified. The court case is expected to take place on 18 October.

King Misuzulu was fully supported by KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomsa MaDube-Ncube and Cogta MEC, Bongi maSithole Moloi.

Premier maDube-Ncube decided to cancel her imbizo address held in Harry Gwala district to support King Misuzulu. Former premier Dr Zweli Mkhize was also present.
