The family of Simamkele Tshemese, a 27-year-old man brutally murdered in Bloekombos, Cape Town, is seeking justice for their loved one.
Tshemese was allegedly killed by four females who accused him of stealing their belongings on Sunday, 26 February.
Phumzile Fumani, a family member of Tshemese who rushed to the scene after receiving a call from a community member, was shocked at the gruesome nature of the murder.
“His killers cut his private parts and his throat, and butchered his back. It was like they were killing a dangerous animal,” she said.
The suspects had allegedly confronted Tshemese about their missing belongings, but he denied any knowledge of them.
They then attacked him with a broken bottle, it is claimed, despite having no proof of his involvement in the theft.
What’s even more tragic is that the suspects realised, after killing Tshemese, that they had attacked the wrong person.
“Community members heard the suspects talking about the mess they had made killing the wrong person,” the family claimed.
The victim was attacked inside a yard, and after realising their mistake, the suspects tried to revive him by pouring water on him.
But it was too late, and they allegedly dumped his body on the road. A passerby is believed to have seen them.
Phakama Ngqukwana, Tshemese’s aunt, is calling for justice.
“Killing someone without valid proof is wrong. They were not sure if it was him, but still, they continued killing him like a dog,” she said.
Western Cape SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, confirmed that the police are investigating a murder case and that no arrests have been made yet. They are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
