The man the community has nicknamed John Wick is hailed a hero by Mamelodi, Tshwane residents for slaying alleged gang members of the Boko Haram gang which has terrorised the community for many years.

It’s alleged that the unidentified man has already killed five gang members.

On Tuesday, John Wick struck again.

This time, his prey was Phillip Mnguni, known as Nkunzi, who was shot dead on the N4 Highway near Diamond Hill Toll Plaza while driving with his girlfriend in a black VW Polo.

Nkunzi’s girlfriend survived the attack.

John Wick is an American action movie starring Keanu Reeves, a retired hitman who comes out of retirement to get revenge.

The police task team formed to investigate gangs, linked Mnguni to gang activities in Mamelodi.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said according to eyewitnesses, Mnguni and his girlfriend were shot by people in a grey Mercedes-Benz.

“Preliminary investigations at the scene identified the deceased as 35-year-old Phillip Given Mnguni.

“The Task Team established to investigate gang activities in Mamelodi had already linked him to several cases linked to Boko Haram,” said Muridili.

The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, said Mnguni was the number one wanted suspect in investigations into the Boko Haram activities in Mamelodi.

He said police are hunting for the people who were inside the silver Mercedes-Benz.

“No one has been arrested yet. The police have registered a case of murder and attempted murder,” said Mawela.

The police urged people who might have come across the car to call the SAPS Crime Stop Number 08600 10111.

South Africans rushed to Twitter, praising John Wick for killing criminals.

Many wished John Wick lived in their crime-torn neighbourhoods.
