A Flagstaff writer has published a book to give hope to young people who think getting pregnant while studying has ended their dreams.
Sibusisiwe Nicole Plaatjies’ new book, The Unfolding of Life, aims to show readers that life goes on even in tough times.
“I chose this title because sometimes things seem not to be working out in life, and the people you are depending on are leaving you. You end up thinking that you are alone, but eventually, life is going to unfold,” said Plaatjies.
The book, released in 2024, follows her first work, A Kiss to Take Within the Midst of Love, published in 2021.
Her latest book tells the story of a woman in her early 50s dealing with heartbreak and one-sided love. Through her journey, the character learns about self-love and staying true to herself no matter what happens.
Plaatjies, who studies neuropsychology at UKZN, discovered her writing talent while in hospital in 2020.
“The only thing I was doing while I was there was writing whatever was on my head at the time until I noticed that I could write a book,” she said.
The book teaches readers about never giving up, fighting for a better future despite challenges, and raising teenagers.
“I wrote about teenage pregnancy and keeping the dreams alive, but most importantly, not giving up on your dreams no matter what happens in your life. Both parents and children can read my book,” said Plaatjies.
