- Actress Tebogo Thobejane says men are scared to date her after she was shot on the N1 highway in Johannesburg in 2023.
- The former Muvhango star says her confidence has been damaged by how people treat her since the attack that injured her and paralysed her friend.
Actress and socialite Tebogo Thobejane says men have been avoiding her since she survived a shooting that nearly took her life in 2023.
The former Muvhango star was shot on the N1 highway in Johannesburg in what was believed to be an attempt on her life linked to her ex-boyfriend, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Tebogo was injured in her foot, while her friend was left paralysed. She later moved to Dubai for safety before returning to South Africa.
Speaking during an Instagram Live session, Tebogo said the emotional damage from the attack still affects her.
“Men act brave, but they’re not,” she said. “No man is going to say, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you even if someone wants to shoot you.’”
She said before the shooting, men used to show interest easily, but now they stay away because her story is all over the internet.
“You walk into a room, and the men who would’ve dated or married me before now avoid me,” she said. “They see that I was shot or called a snitch, and they run.”
Tebogo said even powerful businessmen and politicians avoid being seen with her.
“It’s not just about healing from the shooting,” she said. “It’s also about how people treat me differently now.”
