Amapiano singer Tebogo G. Mashego, known for the hit Biri Marung, was taken away by police in Laudium after attacking people in public.
A video of Mashego being forced into a police van went viral on Wednesday, 24 September.
Police said he showed “abnormal behaviour” and assaulted people without reason. When officers tried to arrest him, he fought back.
Laudium SAPS said he was removed to protect the community.
The video got mixed reactions online. Some fans were concerned, while others mocked him or suggested he was under the influence.
Police also faced criticism for trying to stop bystanders from filming.
