King Mswati of Eswatini has embarked on a three-country trip with his new wife, 21-year-old Nomcebo Zuma, daughter of former president Jacob Zuma.
The trip, which includes visits to Italy, Serbia, and Samoa, is expected to cost more than R200 million. This amount covers allowances for the royal entourage, private jet expenses, and spending money for the king and his wife.
Nomcebo Zuma was introduced to the nation during the Umhlanga Reed Dance. Reports suggest that she has taken friends and family along to avoid feeling lonely on the trip, IOL reported.
The itinerary includes attending the World Food Forum in Italy, a state visit to Serbia, and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.
When asked about the trip’s cost, the king’s spokesperson, Percy Simelane, said that inquiries should be directed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Affairs Minister Pholile Dlamini-Shakantu has yet to comment on the matter.
King Mswati’s marriage to Nomcebo Zuma followed traditional customs. His delegation visited Jacob Zuma’s home and presented 10 cattle as part of the “kucela” ceremony.
