National police commissioner Khehla Sitole has been served with a notice of intention to suspend, according to eNCA.
But the national police spokesman Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo told Scrolla.Africa that the police service was not aware of Sitole’s suspension.
“I also learned from the media and I even called the editor of the media house running with the story,” he said.
Brigadier Naidoo said: “All I know is that Lieutenant-General Francinah Vuma is on vacation leave and Sithole is at work and no one in the police service knows of his suspension.”
But other sources within the police service told the publication that General Sitole had indeed been suspended.
News24 added that Sitole received a letter from President Cyril Ramaphosa last week, asking for representations as to why he should not be suspended, with sources indicating that the letter was received on Monday.
“He was found to have breached his duties as a police officer, in terms of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Act, by intentionally frustrating a string of IPID investigations into corrupt procurement deals within the Crime Intelligence environment,” reported News24.
Sitole has come under fire since the Pretoria High Court ruled that he and his deputies had “breached their duties” in not providing documents for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to investigate allegations of fraud and corruption.
