Mamelodi Sundowns have begun the process of suing Pitso Mosimane’s wife for almost R9 million for commissions paid to her.
Mosimane’s wife, Moira Tlhagale, works as her husband’s agent, and the Pretoria club are looking to recover the R8.6 million paid to her as a 10% commission when Mosimane signed a four-year contract extension with Sundowns.
The Brazilians are requesting the money to be returned as Mosimane left the club in November 2020. They believe their agreement with Tlhagale was to provide her with money each season while Pitso was in charge but she was paid the full amount up front.
Mosimane only spent four months in this new deal before moving to Al Ahly.
Bowman Gilfillan, the law firm representing Sundowns, filed papers with the Johannesburg High Court with the intent of forcing Tlhagale to pay after she had refused to do so voluntarily.
Tlhagale responded through the agency which she owns: “It is with a deep measure of shock and disappointment that MT Sports Marketing and Management has received summons from Mamelodi Sundowns FC demanding to be paid back commission fees in lieu of coach Pitso Mosimane.”
The statement went on to say that the agency has reached out to Sundowns to resolve the matter but have so far been ignored. They claim that the agency attempted to meet with the club president, Dr Patrice Motsepe, in January as well as chairman Tlhopane Motsepe and were twice ignored.
In the meantime, Pitso has done a stellar job with the Egyptian giants. Despite only arriving in November 2020, the South African has already claimed four titles in Egypt and his club find themselves in the semi-final of the CAF Champions League as they look to defend their title.
