By 2022, it had perfected its system. The results include stronger attendance, higher Maths and English marks, and not a single stolen device.
- Apex Stellenbosch charges just R620 a month and uses online learning with classroom support to give pupils private school quality at low cost.
- Experts say Apex’s blended model could change education by offering strong Maths and English results with better attendance and zero theft.
Apex Education is turning heads by making private schooling affordable without cutting quality.
Its flagship school, Apex Stellenbosch, opened in January 2024 with one Grade 8 class. Each year it adds another grade, aiming to reach Grade 12 by 2028.
Fees for 2025 are just R7,440 a year, or R620 a month, and will rise slightly to R7,800 in 2026. That is still far cheaper than most private or top government schools.
Apex uses a blended learning system. Learners work at their own pace using online lessons, with help from one teacher and two facilitators in classrooms of about 100 pupils.
Education expert Michael Caplan from the Free Market Foundation called small private schools like Apex “unsung heroes”, saying they offer better quality than many state schools at a fraction of the cost, BusinessTech reported.
Apex began as a no-fee public school in 2018. During Covid-19, it went online and built its own digital platform, later combining online and classroom learning.
Josh Zoia from the One World Network of Schools said: “If you told me a school could teach 100 kids with one teacher and two assistants and beat traditional schools, I’d have said it was a dream. But Apex is doing it.”
