Declan Murphy, a student from St Benedict’s College in Bedfordview, Gauteng, sadly passed away at 19 years old after a severe fall during a family holiday in Plettenberg Bay.

Scoring a distinction in five subjects, including English, Geography, and Sciences, in the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exams, Declan was a promising member of the class of 2023.

Headmaster Dave Jeffrey said the loss of Declan left a void and praised his all-round abilities, including sports and academics.

Recognised for his excellence in water polo, rugby, and swimming, Declan also received the Silver Award for Overall Dux at school.

His highest exam mark was in English.

Declan’s father, Grant Murphy, tearfully remembered him as an amazing, loving boy who was a great leader and deeply cherished by his family.

Declan had plans to study industrial engineering at Stellenbosch University and was excited about joining the Dagbreek Residence.

His organ donation after death saved lives, adding to his legacy of kindness.
