A women-only “SheBeen” was launched in Soweto on Wednesday.
This unique pop-up shebeen or tavern, aims to provide a safe and comfortable environment for women to celebrate and have fun, addressing concerns about safety that often stop women from enjoying nights out.
The project, driven by Brutal Fruit Spritzer, is in collaboration with South African Breweries (SAB) Sharp’s Responsible Trader Program.
The SheBeen will be hosted at the renovated RockerFella in Molapo, Soweto, during the month of August, which coincides with South Africa’s national Women’s Month.
The concept plays on the word “shebeen” while offering a twist that reflects its female-centric focus.
Candice van den Bosch, Acting Head of Brand at Brutal Fruit Spritzer, said creating spaces where women can celebrate freely and without being inhibited is important.
She described the SheBeen as an “elegant, women-only venue” designed to offer women an oasis where they can fully enjoy themselves, TimesLive reported.
