It’s been seven years since Soul Brothers’ lead vocalist David Masondo passed away, and the legendary mbaqanga group has been struggling to find a permanent replacement.
The group is embarking on a nationwide tour to celebrate their 46th anniversary and fans will see the two artists taking turns leading their famous songs.
Keyboardist Moses “Black Mos” Ngwenya told Scrolla.Africa that Masondo was out of this world.
“As you may well know David had charisma and unbelievable energy on stage with his dance moves and his velvet voice,” said Ngwenya.
“Which is why we have decided to have Thokozani Hadebe and Sibusiso Mbatha from our fellow brothers Abangani as co-leaders in our famous songs.”
The musician said they will soon confirm their tour dates in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and neighbouring countries.
“We are excited that artists have been allowed to perform. The pandemic has dealt us a huge blow,” he explained.
“Our fans must brace themselves for new songs from our new album titled Iqiniso and we will take them down memory lane with hits such as ‘Mama kaSibongile’, ‘Mary’ and ‘Isithothobala’.”
Ngwenya added he was on a mission to teach up-and-coming artists to play keyboard.
“Our time is borrowed on this planet. It is one of my biggest wishes that the mbaqanga genre is preserved after we are gone. I am looking forward to imparting my knowledge and expertise to the young ones.”
