The fast food franchise “Tasty and That’s It” – which replaced McDonald’s in Russia – has seen several of its restaurants run out of fries.
There are also reports that the restaurant has been serving up mouldy burgers.
Local reports suggest that the outlets are facing a shortage of the correct variety of potatoes, which has left diners without the perfect side to their burgers.
The franchise claimed fries will only be back on the menu later this year.
The Tasty and That’s It serves as the replacement to popular fast-food chain McDonald’s, after the franchise pulled out following the invasion of Ukraine.
The American fast-food powerhouse sold all its restaurants to a Russian businessman in June. He then changed the name to “Vkusno i Tochka” which translates to Tasty and That’s It.
However, only a month after opening its stories, the franchise is already facing a supply crisis.
The fast-food chain requires rustic potatoes, which are a thicker-cut version of the traditional french fry served at McDonald’s.
Tasty and That’s It said in a statement that last year provided a poor harvest for its variety of potato.
The franchise claimed that they normally attempt to source their produce from Russian farms, adding that it is now impossible to import potatoes, which would anyway be a temporary solution.
Russia’s agriculture ministry, however, said that there is no potato shortage in the country.
“The Russian market is fully supplied with potatoes, including processed ones. In addition, crops from the new harvest are already arriving, which rules out the possibility of a shortage,” the ministry said.
Customers have in the past suggested that they were served mouldy burgers at the fast-food chain at several outlets.
Insect legs were also found in a burger in a separate incident, according to the Daily Mail.
