Kaizer Chiefs will take to the field on Wednesday for the first time since the sacking of coach Gavin Hunt last Friday.
Hunt did not exit on a high. Chiefs lost their last game 2-1 away to Black Leopards two days before he was shown the exit door.
That defeat was the last straw for the club hierarchy. Arthur Zwane and Dillon Shepard have been handed the task of guiding the club in their remaining matches, including those in the CAF Champions League.
Hunt left Chiefs in 11th place in the DStv Premiership.
Mathematically, they can still make it into the top eight if they win their final two matches, but their first assignment comes on Wednesday and is against third-place Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium in Soweto at 5pm.
A defeat in this fixture would end Chiefs’ chances of finishing in the top eight. They are five points behind TS Galaxy, who are sitting in eighth place.
Arrows have proven to be a tough nut to crack this season and it’s going to be a tall order for Chiefs to get anything from eAbafana Bes’thende. Arrows seek to finish in third or even second-place to play continental football next season.
On Saturday Chiefs end their season playing Galaxy.
Saturday’s games will also see Mamelodi Sundowns being handed the DStv Premiership trophy and officially crowned as champions for a record-breaking fourth successive year.
It will also see one team being relegated and another one going to the national promotion/relegation play-offs.
Leopards are in danger of being relegated as they are 16th on the log. On Wednesday, they play Cape Town City, who would want to impress their new coach Eric Tinkler. Leopards will need maximum points to keep their hopes alive of avoiding straight relegation.
