- Six people were killed and one injured in three shooting attacks within two hours in Kraaifontein on Tuesday night.
- Residents say gangs are destroying their youth and want the army deployed to make streets safe again.
Police are looking into three shooting attacks in Kraaifontein that left six people dead and one injured on Tuesday night.
The dead include four women and two men. All the shootings happened within two hours of each other.
A local resident who did not want to be named said Cape Town has become a death trap.
“We are not feeling safe in our own homes, you get killed anywhere, it is sad that our government is doing nothing about the killings that have been happening for too long in the Cape Flats,” she said.
She wants the army sent to dangerous areas to help the police.
“It is clear to everyone that police cannot do it alone, so why is it so difficult to deploy the army so that as residents we can walk on our street freely and without fearing that someone will come and shoot us. How many more people need to die for our government to act,” she said.
The first shooting happened at 23:30 when three women were shot. Two died at the scene.
Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said two females aged 19 and 25 were shot and killed. A 24-year-old victim was shot and taken to hospital.
At 23:40, two more women in their twenties were shot dead in a bedroom.
The third shooting happened at 21:50 when two men were killed.
Police have not ruled out that the three attacks are linked.
The National Commissioner of SAPS, General Fannie Masemola will visit the Kraaifontein police station following the killing of six people last night on Wednesday afternoon.
