- Three days of heavy rain in KZN killed six people, including three family members when their house collapsed in KwaMakhutha.
- Emergency teams battled difficult conditions to recover bodies, while floods cut off communities across the province.
Three days of non-stop rain in KwaZulu-Natal has left six people dead, including three family members crushed in their home.
Cogta MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi said on Wednesday that a family of three died when their house collapsed in KwaMakhutha, south of Durban.
Nine kilometres away in Adams Mission, a husband and wife were killed when mud from a falling bank buried their house on Wednesday evening.
In Eshowe, in the north of KZN, a three-year-old girl drowned trying to cross a flooded stream.
Emergency teams struggled through the mud on Thursday morning to reach the bodies of the Adams Mission couple. They had to break down part of the house with a TLB tractor to get to the victims.
The teams included workers from eThekwini Metro Fire and Rescue, eThekwini Metro Police, SAPS Search and Rescue and ALS Paramedics emergency medical services.
The rain has caused problems across KZN. In Ulundi, flooded bridges have cut off communities from each other.

Although the sky cleared on Thursday morning, the SA Weather Service warned more rain could fall later in the day.
Meanwhile, the people of Middleburg in Eastdene woke up to flooded streets on Thursday morning after seven days of rain.
The flooding affected some homes in the area and motorists battled to cross rising water in low-lying areas.
