Simone Biles back for balance beam

American gymnast, Simone Biles who withdrew from the Olympics citing mental health issues, will return to the games to compete in the balance beam final.

Many thought they would not see the 24-year-old Olympic champion compete again in this year’s games after she withdrew from the women’s all-around final, the individual vault and the uneven bars final.

However USA Gymnastics confirmed in a tweet that Suni Lee and Simone Biles would compete in the final.

“Two US athletes in the balance beam final tomorrow!! Can’t wait to watch you both!” said the tweet.

Biles won four gold medals in the 2016 Rio Olympics and required six medals at this year’s games to become the most successful female gymnast of all time but she stated she was suffering with ‘twisties’ – which is what gymnasts call feeling disoriented when they are in the air.

The world will be watching her in action on Tuesday. Despite her troubles, she joins the event as the favourite to claim gold.

Even though she is at the early phase of her career, she has already won four Olympic gold medals and 19 World Championship gold medals.

Biles will begin her balance beam final at 10:50am on Tuesday with the hope of making it to the podium to add to her six career Olympic medals.
