Miss SA finalist Thulani Ndzotyana may be forced to pull out of the pageant to clear accusations of defending her former rape accused boyfriend.
Ndzotyana is one of 30 finalists selected this week by the organisers of the prestigious event.
However, the New Brighton, Gqeberha born beauty is being accused of standing by her ex-boyfriend, former Under 19s Blue Bulls rugby player Kwezi Mafu who is facing rape allegations. Mafu is accused of raping a 15-year old girl in Gqeberha in 2018.
Monica Josefu of New Brighton told Scrolla.Africa: “I was shocked when I heard that she defended Mafu. I know Thulani as sociable and athletic. I am surprised that she stood by such a monster because I used to attend some of her campaigns where she advocated for the emancipation of girls.”
@SqumzNje tweeted, “I don’t even feel sorry for Thulani mna. I know it’s her dream but she insisted on standing by her rapist boyfriend, making it seem as if the girl was making up the entire rape when there was so much evidence.”
Ndzotyana issued a statement on Tuesday.
“Kwezi and I were dating when the rape allegations were made and he was arrested. I know both parties involved and made the decision not to engage until the ongoing legal process has run its course,” she said.
“I have not been in a relationship with him since he was arrested, I have not spoken about it at all except to close family members.”
