Shandre won’t be sold to local rivals

SuperSport United has made it clear they have no intention of selling young star Shandre Campbell to any local teams in the DStv Premiership.

Despite being in his first season at the top level, the 18-year-old has quickly become a key player for Matsatsantsa.

Sources say that while it’s not known if any teams have tried to buy Campbell, SuperSport believe they could get a much better deal if he moves to a club outside of South Africa.

An insider shared with the Citizen that the club’s stance on Campbell is firm.

“He’s not for sale within the country. Management sees a lot of potential in him and believes he has what it takes to succeed internationally,” said the report.

Stan Matthews, the club’s director, is known for his thoughtful planning, and it seems that only an offer from a foreign club could persuade SuperSport to let Campbell go.

Additionally, coach Gavin Hunt thinks Campbell would benefit from staying at SuperSport for a couple more years to continue his development, rather than leaving too soon and risking his playtime.

Campbell has made a significant impact this season, scoring five goals in 22 appearances across all competitions.

SuperSport United is set to face Golden Arrows on Wednesday 3 April at 7.30pm.
