In a fitting provincial funeral, a national icon was laid to rest on Sunday in Cape Town. Shaleen Surtie Richards died last week Monday at a guest house.
The 66-year-old actress was sent to her final resting place in the company of family, friends, industry peers, as well as those who fell in love with her talent and with the characters she played across a career which spanned nearly four decades.
Flags were flown at half mast in Western Cape for the special provincial service, which was approved by President Cyril Ramaphosa last week.
Shaleen is known for her roles in 7de Laan, Egoli: Place of Gold and Generations.
She has also performed in a long list of plays, including Shirley Valentine and Hallo en Koebaai.
In 2001, she hosted her own TV talk show, Shaleen, on M-Net.
