Sex can be as good as, or even better than, a sleeping pill!
The revelation comes from a recent survey presented at the SLEEP 2023 annual meeting in Indianapolis, USA.
The study involved questioning 53 adults about their sleeping habits, including sleep quality, sex, orgasms, and the use of sleep medications.
Lead author Dr Douglas Kirsch from Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina, highlighted the lack of scientific data on the impact of sex and orgasm on sleep quality, New York Post reported.
While it’s often joked that a roll in the hay can help you doze off, this study aimed to determine if there was any truth to it.
The results were quite amusing. Out of the participants, 75% reported sleeping better after sex or orgasm.
Even more revealing, 64% felt that a sleeping pill had a similar or worse effect on their sleep compared to getting intimate.
The study’s authors noted that although the media often portrays sex as conducive to a good night’s rest, this link had not been thoroughly examined by scientists until now.
So, while sleep medications are common, it seems that some good old-fashioned lovemaking might just be the secret to peaceful slumber.
Of course, it’s important to note that this study is still preliminary and more research is needed to fully understand the relationship between sex and sleep.
But, hey, it’s certainly an intriguing and entertaining topic for further exploration. Who knew that a bit of bedtime fun could potentially replace those sleep aids? So, next time you find yourself tossing and turning, you might find that “pillow talk” has a whole new meaning!
