Scott McTominay steered Manchester United to a 2-1 win over Chelsea in the pick of Wednesday’s Premier League action at Old Trafford.
The six games of action each delivered memorable tales, though, with the fall of the champions the most shocking of them all.
Manchester City’s trip to Aston Villa will be one that the treble winners will want to quickly forget. Unai Emery’s side were an unstoppable force, with Leon Bailey the match winner.
The Villains extended their winning run to 14 games and now sit above City in third spot on the standings.
In Manchester, Erik Ten Hag’s men returned to winning ways at long last and with a decent level of conviction.
With Chelsea in town, the stakes were high and luckily for the Stretford End, Scott McTominay was at the double to ensure the three points would stay.
It may have been an even easier win for United had Bruno Fernandes found the net from the spot early on.
Cole Palmer gave the Blues a lifeline on the stroke of half time, too, but it was not to be for Mauricio Pochettino’s side who remain neither here nor there in tenth place.
In other results, Fulham thrashed Nottingham Forest 5-0 at Craven Cottage, Brighton beat Brentford 2-1 and Bournemouth were 2-0 victors away to Crystal Palace.
Liverpool, meanwhile, got another crucial three points on the road at Sheffield United, with Virgil Van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai on the scoresheet for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
On Thursday Everton host Newcastle at Goodison Park while Tottenham Hotspur take on West Ham in a London derby at home.
