The path has been cleared for Mzansi to once again have a boxing world champion!
South Africa’s Azinga “Golden Boy” Fuzile beat Englishman Martin Joseph Ward with a seventh-round technical knockout in Las Vegas on Sunday morning.
The boxers went toe-to-toe for the junior lightweight title eliminator and the South African southpaw proved to be sharper and stronger.
A right uppercut by Fuzile stunned Ward in the seventh round, sending him to the canvas twice in the round. After the second time, Ward used the ropes to struggle to his feet but his trainer waved the towel, bringing the fight to an end.
Fuzile’s record has improved to 15 wins and one loss. He has recorded his ninth knockout and moved one step closer to a shot at the vacant IBF crown.
It was a triumphant comeback for 24-year-old Fuzile, who was knocked out by Russian Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov in the eighth round of their IBF eliminator in September 2019 in East London.
Currently without a world champion, Fuzile is on the brink of restoring South African boxing pride. To do so, he must claim the IBF crown.
