- SARS officials and police swooped on MaMkhize’s luxury Umhlanga home while she was away in Johannesburg.
- The raid comes just days after MaMkhize’s divorce from Sbu Mpisane was finalised.
Barely a week after she went viral on social media popping expensive French bubbles to celebrate her finalised divorce, the KZN construction mogul and flashy socialite is facing new woes.
Her week-long divorce celebration parties were on Tuesday brought to an abrupt end as the taxman raided her plush seaside La Lucia mansion, north of Durban.
The high life might now be a thing of the past for flashy businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize.
SARS and police stormed MaMkhize’s La Lucia home, hunting for assets to cover her R13-million personal tax debt.
The raid comes months after she faced a SARS investigation in May, and just five days after her divorce from Sbu Mpisane was made final.
But MaMkhize isn’t alone in the SARS firing line. Her family trust, Shandi Trust, owes another R37-million in taxes. The trust’s leaders include her cousin’s wife Siphokazi Zuma and her brother Melusi Siphesihle Hugh Mkhize.
Several people close to the Royal AM Football Club boss have also been summoned by SARS. These include her friend Shaun Stylist (real name Andile Naki), who owns Lungza Management Consultants CC, and her niece Senzekile Mseleku, who runs DPA Project Managers and Facilitators.
SARS spokesperson Siphithi Sibeko said they got court permission to search the mansion and keep any assets they found.
“This decision is a crucial step in SARS’s strategic objective to make it increasingly hard and costly for taxpayers who wilfully and intentionally engage in criminal activity. Over the past few years, SARS has been diligently investigating and cracking down on the construction industry so that it complies with tax laws,” he said.
SARS boss Edward Kieswetter thanked the police and Hawks for their help.
“SARS will not waiver in executing its mandate without fear, favour, or prejudice, regardless of any person’s standing in society. No one is above the law,” he said.
He added that tax money helps the poor, elderly and children. “Any wilful defiance of the law will be resisted,” he said.
MaMkhize wasn’t home during the raid. Sources said she was in Johannesburg.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Ntshiunda wouldn’t comment, saying all questions should go to SARS.
