Promising young artist SA Rifa scooped two awards at the annual MEM Awards at a glamorous event which was held at the Centenary Hall in Mogale City, Gauteng on Saturday.

The 20-year-old from Bhisho in the Eastern Cape took home the award for Best Female Artist and the award for Best Collabo with her single titled “The Heist” featuring Piscez.

SA Rifa, whose real name is Sarifa Malaika Sokutu, said the song she recorded with Piscez was inspired by the Spanish Netflix thriller series called Money Heist.

Drawing influence from lyricists like the late Prokid, A-Reece, Rouge and America’s J. Cole, SA Rifa bases her music on storytelling, politics and celebrating life.

Being a self-confessed “introverted person”, SA Rifa said she will continue using hip-hop music as an outlet for her inner voice.

“My hopes are to catch the attention of listeners with my music and I hope everyone has something they take away from it,” SA Rifa told Scrolla.Africa.

She added that she is currently working on new music as she plans to release another single early next year.
