An uninspiring performance by Kaizer Chiefs yielded no goals in the 0-0 Premier Soccer League draw with Royal AM at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday.
The contest was a big yawn as Amakhosi fired blanks all afternoon against their hosts, who also struggled for a breakthrough.
However, Chiefs could draw solace from the fact that they have now gone for five games without tasting defeat and are still in the top eight.
Royal AM remain stuck in the relegation zone; 14th on the table with 12 points more than basement side Cape Town Spurs.
The home side was missing the services of suspended defender Lesego Manganyi but had enough cover in central defence with Wandile Mabuza partnering Ayanda Jiyane.
Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson had centre-back Thatayaone Ditlhokwe still out injured and Njabulo Ngcobo came in for him.
The decision to start Keagan Dolly from the bench might have come back to haunt them as they lacked bite in attack.
Royal AM were the first to make an attempt at goal on 17 minutes with Menzi Masuku forcing Bruce Bvuma to block his cracker with his legs.
The contest was a drab affair and the biggest scoring opportunity of the match came in the 26th minute, when Ashley du Preez mysteriously lobbed off target after coming face-to-face with the hosts’ goalkeeper Hugo Nyame.
The Cameroonian custodian was back to deny Sifiso Hlanti on the brink of halftime.
From the start of the second half, Amakhosi resorted to long shots from outside the box with Reeve Frosler, Christian Basomboli and Edson Castillo making attempts.
It was a match with little hope of a breakthrough for Chiefs who risked having their opponents punish them right at the death.
