Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney has pointed to weather conditions for his side’s 2-2 draw with Orlando Pirates in Friday’s friendly match in Spain.
The Championship side had to come from behind twice to settle for two goals apiece against the Buccaneers at Banus Football Centre.
Olisa Ndah and Evidence Makgopa were on target for the Buccaneers as they managed to gauge themselves against their Championship opponents.
“It was a very difficult game. I think Orlando Pirates are a very good team and we knew that,” Rooney told Plymouth media.
“The heat, it was a very hot evening. It was hard enough standing there watching the game, so for the lads, it was a very hot evening and they put in a lot of work yesterday with a double session.”
“It was important that they got the minutes but also get some rhythm of the game.”
“I thought we grew into the game in the second half and could’ve gone on to win the game in the end, but overall really pleased with the players.”
Up next for Pirates is a date with La Liga outfit Sevilla on Monday at the Jesus Navas Stadium.
The Buccaneers are trying to sharpen themselves ahead of next season where they will be bidding to break Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance of domestic football as well as doing well in the CAF Champions League.
