India’s cricketing legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma made a highly anticipated return on Sunday, but the excitement was short-lived as Australia thrashed India by seven wickets in the first of three ODIs.

The Indian pair, who had retired from T20 international and test cricket, were back on the pitch for the first time in four months.

However, they both struggled against Australia’s pace attack, with Kohli getting dismissed for a duck and Sharma scoring just eight runs.

India’s batting line-up faltered, managing just 136 runs in 26 overs in the rain affected encounter.

In contrast, Australia’s Mitchell Marsh led from the front, scoring 46 not out and guiding his team to victory.

Josh Philippe also shone with a quickfire 37. Australia chased down the revised target of 131 in just 21.1 overs, securing a convincing win.

The series now shifts to Adelaide, where the two teams will face off again on Thursday and Indian fans will hope their heroes can mount a comeback.
