Rich Nephew the poor cousin of Lord Brain

Arthur Greene

Yes, that is his name. Rich Nephew has been named as the US’s new anti-corruption czar.

It’s fair to say that Rich’s parents did him no favours choosing his name.

But he has taken it all in his stride, tweeting on Tuesday, “Alright, I’ve heard a *lot* of ‘nephew’ jokes in my time, but this is straight-up hilarious and had not occurred to me until now.”

And counter to what his name suggests, there is no evidence that Nephew has got to where he is through anything other than being good at what he does.

His name might be considered unfortunate, but with it he joins a long list of people whose names are hilariously appropriate for their jobs.

Take, for instance, the distinguished neuroscientist Lord Brain, who wrote the medical publication Clinical Neurology.

Then there’s the runner Aaron Farr, so whenever someone asks him what he does, he can just repeat his name back to them.

Next up is everyone’s favourite (and most hydrated) employee at the UK Water Research Centre, Andrew Drinkwater.

Is it possible to be too good? Alan Toogood should have taken the hint. Instead, he dedicated his career volunteering for Samaritans, a humanitarian aid charity.

Then we’ve got our two favourite cashiers, Kashera and Ka ching. Together, they’d be unstoppable.

But let’s hope that the logger Phil Cutright never crosses paths with the International Tree Climbing champion Scott Forrest.

Last and probably least is the UK’s notorious former deputy chief whip Chris Pincher, whose pinching antics managed this week to topple the country’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Johnson was forced to resign after it came to light that he had promoted the alleged sexual predator in 2019, after referring to him as “Pincher by name, pincher by nature”.
