One of the core members of the musical group Trompies, Mojalefa ‘Mjokes’ Matsane, has passed away in a tragic car accident.
The Kalawa Jazmee co-director died in the early hours of 23 May after a performance with the rest of the Trompies crew.
Kalawa Jazmee Records revealed the news in a statement made to the press later that day.
“It is with great sadness to announce that our KALAWA-JAZMEE co-director and fifth member of Trompies, Emmanuel Mojalefa Matsane popularly known as Mjokes, passed away in a car accident,” it reads.
“Further information regarding his memorial service and funeral will be given during the week,” it concludes.
Matsane’s final performance was held in Disoufeng in Soweto. The fatal car crash took place just hours after the concert ended.
It was the group’s first show of the year, having last performed together in Lesotho in 2019.
Mjokes captioned the post, “Our very 1st show 2021, God bless Africa.”
Trompies are popular for timeless hits like Sweey Lavo and Magasman which the group still perform at events.
Tributes have come pouring in for the fallen musician. His role in Kwaito will forever be cemented.
