Reds snap slump as Arsenal and Chelsea share spoils in London drama

Liverpool jolted back to life with a 2-0 win over West Ham, thanks to Alexander Isak’s £125 million breakthrough.

The record signing Swede is finally off the mark after a 10-match drought in the Premier League, as he finished clinically to beat Alphonse Areola in the Hammers goal.

Cody Gakpo sealed it late to ensure a rare lift for Arne Slot’s side who are now up into eighth place after losses to City, Crystal Palace and PSV piled on the pressure.

Elsewhere in London, Arsenal and Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw amid fiery tension.

Moises Caicedo’s crude foul sparked a red card just before the break, but Trevoh Chalobah headed Chelsea ahead shortly after.

Mikel Merino equalised on the hour mark for the Gunners, salvaging a point.

VAR clashes, bookings, and Estevao Willian’s missed chances fueled the heat in the top of the table clash, but Arsenal stay five points clear of Man City, with Chelsea six behind the leaders in third.

In some of the weekend’s other results, the Citizens put Burnley away 3-2 at the Etihad, Newcastle beat Everton 4-1 away from home and Manchester United were 2-1 victors over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Premier League action continues in midweek with ten games spread across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
