Red Devils steal the show with derby day destruction

Manchester United were the biggest winners of what was another exhilarating weekend of Premier League action.

Under the interim management of Michael Carrick, the Old Trafford faithful got the bounce they were waiting for as United put local rivals City away by two goals to nil on Saturday.

It was a dominant performance from start to finish with Bryan Mbuemo and Patrick Dorgu getting on the scoresheet.

Alongside Mbuemo, Amad Diallo returned to the fray following his international duty at Afcon.

The squad depth did United the world of good following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, with Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire both looking good in the starting eleven.

The Red Devils now remain in the Champions League places and are the only side in the top five to have won this weekend.

Leaders Arsenal failed to fully capitalise on City’s defeat, with the Gunners held to a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool, despite being 12 games unbeaten, will be far from happy after their 1-1 draw at home to Burnley.

The pressure remains on Arne Slot, who will have Mohamed Salah back next week following Egypt’s fourth place Afcon finish.

On Sunday, Aston Villa missed out on the chance to go up into second place after Thierno Barry’s goal and Jordan Pickford’s heroics in goal helped Everton to a 1-0 victory at Villa Park.

The gameweek concludes when Brighton face Bournemouth on Monday night football before all eyes turn to the penultimate league phase matchday of the Uefa Champions League in midweek.
