SA Rugby confirmed that Rassie Erasmus’s Twitter account was hacked over the weekend following a pornographic post being retweeted on his account.
The Director of Rugby was left red-faced after the explicit clip was shared on his page, leaving him scrambling to remove it.
The clip has since been deleted off Erasmus’s official account.
SA Rugby released a statement indicating that the former Springbok coach no longer has access to the account.
“The issue has been reported to Twitter and will hopefully be resolved speedily. Any content appearing under the handle should be disregarded as being posted by a malicious hacker until further notice,” the statement read.
Despite the SA Rugby statement, it looked as if Erasmus had regained access to the account as he responded to the incident.
“Someone is trying really hard to drag us into the gutter! Make yourself known man! I will be more than happy to meet you there,” Erasmus tweeted in response to an article regarding the incident.
The World Cup winning coach apologised to his followers for the incident.
Erasmus has become hugely popular on the social media platform following his 2019 triumph.
But this is not the first incident of controversy surrounding the Director of Rugby on Twitter.
Erasmus recorded an hour-long video during the British & Irish Lions tour last year criticising referee Nic Berry on several decisions.
While nothing involving the infamous video was shared on Erasmus’s Twitter account, he did share several videos from different decisions that were deemed questionable.
The controversial coach shared content from a person named “Jaco Johan” account that many believed was Erasmus using an anonymous account.
