Extra Time: Michael Madyira writes that TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic has all the qualities to manage Kaizer Chiefs successfully.

Several names have been thrown around as candidates to take charge of Kaizer Chiefs, from Pitso Mosimane, Manqoba Mngqithi, Alexandre Gallo, Alexandre Santos, and Roger de Sa to former Nigeria coach Jose Peseiro.

Also being mentioned at Chiefs is TS Galaxy tactician Sead Ramovic.

The former Bundesliga goalkeeper’s star has risen following his management of the Rockets this season.

Before the start of the season, he lost players like centre-back Given Msimango to Kaizer Chiefs, Tshegofatso Nyama and Bathusi Aubaas to Sundowns, and goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi to Orlando Pirates, leaving him with an average-looking squad.

But he transformed his players into dreamers, chasing a top-four spot Premier Soccer League finish.

They failed in that quest but settled for position six, which is still respectable.

Along the way, TS Galaxy pulled off some upsets, like eliminating Mamelodi Sundowns from the Carling Knockout and beating a desperate Orlando Pirates towards the end of the PSL campaign.

That sparked rumours that Chiefs had contacted Ramovic, who responded that he was committed to TS Galaxy.

This is a man who works with few resources, from manpower to a low budget, but still manages to push his team beyond expectations.

Since Chiefs do not want to invest heavily in the transfer market, Ramovic could be the right man to take charge at Naturena.

He transforms average players into big stars. For example, he signed Lehlohonolo Mojela, Thabang Rakwane and Thabang Semache from First Division teams, who are now being linked with big team moves.

Or the way he took a discarded Chiefs academy player, Puso Dithejane, and made him a regular who even denied Sundowns victory with a crucial goal.

Also making Ramovic ideal for the Chief’s job is his character.

He is a very opinionated coach who broke PSL protocol on political issues to voice his concerns about the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Ramovic showed his Mamelodi Sundowns counterpart Rhulani Mokwena the middle finger in their feud, standing up to defend himself and his players while telling off the PSL title winner.

Such a character is needed at Chiefs: someone with a spine who can boldly make decisions and get Amakhosi back to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance.
