President Cyril Ramaphosa has put forward the names of four candidates to the Judicial Service Commission for consideration for the position of Chief Justice.
This is the first time in South African history that the president has nominated four candidates. Usually there is just one.
Those in the running for the top judiciary position include Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.
Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga and Supreme Court president Mandisa Maya are also on the list. Gauteng High Court Judge president Dunstan Mlambo is also shortlisted.
Former Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng’s term came to an end last month.
