Rabada stars as Proteas crush Bangladesh

South Africa beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in their first Test match in Mirpur on Thursday, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

Kagiso Rabada grabbed six wickets in the second innings as Bangladesh were bowled out for 307. This left the Proteas needing just 106 runs to win.

Bangladesh’s Taijul Islam fought back by taking three South African wickets, but it wasn’t enough. The Proteas reached their target before lunch on day four, with Tony de Zorzi top-scoring with 41 runs.

The match was extra special for Rabada, who became the fastest South African bowler in history to take 300 Test wickets. He ended with nine wickets for the match.

Bangladesh nearly had something to cheer about when Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 97 runs, but he missed out on his century.

Earlier, South Africa scored 308 in their first innings, while Bangladesh only managed 106 in theirs.

This loss continues Bangladesh’s poor run against South Africa. They have never won a Test match against the Proteas.

The second and final Test starts on 29 October in Chattogram.
