Put your hands up for Cassper Nyovest

If he is not paying tribute to public figures and legendary artists like Doc Shebeleza, Cassper Nyovest is out making hits with classic song samples.

And his new single titled “Put Your Hands Up” featuring Mousse T is another classic example of his genius.

Having made hits by sampling legendary artists like Malaika, Dennis Ferrer, TKZee and even Doc Shebeleza on “Gets Getsa 2.0”, Nyovest took Mousse T’s electronic “Ooh Song” and turned it into a banging hip hop number.

First released in March 1999 with another electronic house song from Mousse T titled “More I Get”, “Ooh Song” has been sampled and remixed by a number of artists including Glen Lewis, who mixed it for The Heavy Dee Krew’s 2014 album, titled Mid Tempo House Hits 45 BPM.

But the 31-year-old rapper from Mahikeng in the North West complemented the beat with a hard hitting flow, taking it back to the old school rap days.

“I haven’t been inspired to make hip hop music for a while now,” said Nyovest on Instagram.

“Everything felt repetitive and young. I woke up one day and decided to rap my age.” He dropped the “Put Your Hands Up” single at midnight on Thursday, 18 August.
